About Birdman

James Wolstencroft has become known as the birdman of Arusha. His first east african safari was in 1976 although he didn't settle in Tanzania until 2005; bringing Elsie, his wife, and their two sons.

James is a lifelong naturalist and very keen birder, whose enthusiasm for all forms of wildlife, has encouraged an interest in many others, some of whom have become avid birders.

Experience over five decades, across four continents, has given James the broader view of nature which these days very few wildlife professionals seem to have.

James writes daily about the natural world and has been leading bird watching and nature tours for over twenty years.

"In my tours and writing I seek dialogue with nature. Where ecological insight and aesthetic appreciation meet; hopefully generating more rewarding experiences than quick looks and ticks on a list."
